I would love to hear people's thoughts on how the integrate environmental sustainability issues into their instruction. As sustainability because more and more integrated in our lives I think it is crucial that we work it into our content. Especially given the tight budgets, the economic benefit of being sustainable environmentally can help schools in many respects. For example, how many paper copies of worksheets or handouts to you pass out each quarter? Year? over your lifetime? How much toner have you used in doing so? where does toner come from? how much does it cost the school?
I just read an article on the concerns of F2F teachers as they move to the online environment and in reference to your paper copy handouts...research shows that online instructors share more resources with their students than Face to Face instructors. So, I would think that even web enhanced course instructors have the tendency to share more resources too, this in turn should certainly cut down on paper waste and at the same time, ironically, support more resource sharing!
