My $.02, I would say since you have individual presences, forgo the Institutional presence. eLearning ideas that come out from you may be perceived as ideas and resources while things that come out of an institutional presence may be more likely to be perceived as policy, limitations, etc. When the library talks, I don't know whose talking. When Dawn talks, I listen.

The power of social networking is the social. It's not as easy to be as social with library as it is with a friend or colleague.

That being said, I strongly feel that the college could do well to provide a Web 2.0 system with social networking features for official campus communication.

You might consider using an identifiable ID for this sytem. An institutional department name is a bit off-putting. In an online environment, it can be difficult to make social connections - making your online presence more personal helps. BTW, who are you?
