Hi Greg, We have an ExamView v5 database with questions and a Blackboard 7.x environment. ExamView 5 only exports up to Bb v6.x. If I make an export to Bb6.x (a zip file resulting), I cannot import the file in de pool manager of Bb. Do you have ex…

LinuxFest Networking

At the LinuxFest Party, I had an opportunity to talk with Rob Lamphier and Niall King from Linden Lab, the makers of Second Life. Niall is the Recruiting Manager for Linden. It was a great opportunity for my students to hear from a technology employer about the traits they are looking for. No surprise here - communication and group collaboration skills are mandatory. "But what about the tech skills?", my students asked. "Yes, those are needed, but not without the other.", was the answer.

Niall… Continue

Elluminate Live! session with students.

In advance of doing a full-on session with students, I held an eOffice-Hour in Elluminate Live! for my students today. I had previously assigned them a project comprised of a series of steps and related links to help them setup and test their systems audio, video and software configuration. The assignment also included assigned tasks via links to Elluminate Live! participant orientations online - courtesy of Elluminate.

Four folks showed up to test and play, and I was able to spend some time he… Continue

Elluminate Live! Moderator Training Part 3

Slower pace with more focus on a limited number of topics.

Spent time practicing group breakout sessions, loading content to Multimedia Libraries, and using the notes tool. I'm ready to start loading content and teaching with the tool. Did I mention that the online and phone support includes help with pedagogy for teaching with the tool? Cool.

Also found some training sessions for participants. I'll have my students watch recorded and interactive presentations on this. Plus there are slides to… Continue

Elluminate Live! Moderator Training Part 2

Took the second in the three part series today. It was faster paced than the first and covered using the virtual whiteboard, white board annotation features, saving whiteboards, and moved to application and desktop sharing. There's a bunch of ways you could utilize the whiteboard features in class sessions.

I was especially interested in the application sharing. This feature allows you to show your whole desktop, or just a single application window to your class. You can also allow one or more… Continue

Elluminate Live! Part 1

Attended an online class in Elluminate this morning. It's the first of a three part series in moderating Elluminate classrooms. The instructor was very skilled in managing the students even though we'd all been given moderation rights in the classroom. She demonstrated some good techniques in managing audio control, and how to handle classroom problems with out disturbing the whole class session. Recorded sessions are available t… Continue

Hi Greg,

With your work in Information Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.

Hmmm. Very interesting points that I hadn't considered at all (still Dawn speaking). If I share new electronic discoveries or library resources -- like Shelfari or a tutorial --as myself, it seems sort of "ownerish" which isn't really accurate. Libraries, after all, are social institutions. What are the options for communicating on campus? Everybody emails are not especially popular and we have little control over the content on our webpages. Maybe the communication tools we really need aren't here yet. I will have to think more about this. Thanks for the 2 cents!

Hello Greg, It's Dawn here right now. Traci Harpine and I are planning to use this space collaboratively to share some of the resources and goings-on in the library. We certainly don't want to seem "off-putting" and we do have our individual pages. Can you suggest a way we might more warmly represent ourselves? Maybe a group photo instead of a picture of the door?

I was checking out a "pimp my profile" site. Actually, it was pretty cool that I could paste all the CSS instead of downloading the background image, etc.. Fun stuff. Maybe it's not obnoxious enough though.

I recorded it using Audacity, saved it as an MP3, uploaded it to podbean and followed their instructions to publish it. I learned all of this yesterday afternoon!
