I don't know if you've gotten Cable Green's invite about open-source webinar, but here it is: Title: Textbook Affordability: A Discussion About Skyrocketing Costs and Emerging Solutions Time/Date: Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM...

Profile Information

Department/Role
Bookstore / Manager of Bookstore Services / AKA Bookstore Queen
What role do you play in eLearning at BTC?
We're less and less about textbooks and more about "information delivery." CDs, ebooks, download texts, digital delivery, access passpoints are all out and about. The bookstore can help be a conduit for delivery and a reference point for students and faculty. But mostly, faculty tells me what to order and I say "OK."
What would you like to gain from participating in this network?
As digital content/elearning becomes more and more, I hope to remain part of the discussions with "book" choices. I can be the voice of the funded student...or the one with the Commodore 64 at home instead of the PC. I hope (and expect) to learn a bunch more of what's really out there...especially from faculty perspective.
What would you like to contribute to this network?
Well, I expect I'll learn more than I give, but my first bit of news is to alert all to the fact that six major texts publishers just joined together to create CourseSmart. digital delivery of texts directly to your students directly at half of what I can sell them the paper version (in many but not all cases); and digital sampling of texts for faculty. If your reps haven't hounded you yet, info can be found on www.coursemart.com Please note that nothing is quite as easy as it looks....and I'd like to be part of faculty discussions before just sending all students there (or some other venture!!)

Selling Textbooks in an electronic age

There are lots of issues with texts....texts have been the bane of students since ...well, since forever.

I plan to discuss a bunch of what's going on in the "e" field since I think some of the applications and solutions are especially important in the field of elearning. However I can't help but reprint this letter of frustration a collegue sent to Cengage (who is Thomson who is Delmar who is a bunch of others) Publishing. We at the bookstore lvl are being taken out of the distributio

Hi Liz,

With your interest in eLearning, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.
