Wordle is a website that lets you create your own word clouds. Html code is given once you save it on the site, which allows you to post the cloud on your webpage. You can also print the word cloud and use it as a poster or sign. Great for promoting campus events.
I have created a word cloud using eLearning helpdesk information that is now available in the BTC Library.
Check it out!

I enjoyed the snow. There's something about being snowed in and sitting cuddled up on the couch with a cup of cocoa, a nice book to read, or keeping up with our friends and collegues on Facebook. It is nature's way of making us slow down a bit and enjoy the beauty around us. Welcome back!

The quarter went swimmingly--EXCEPT for the fits and starts I encountered trying to develop my online class. I feel as though I know just enough to get excited and then overwhelmed... As I begin to explore one of the technologies, I then discover that it's really not supported fully, or something doesn't quite work right, or there's one little piece missing that I need to make it work. Instead of having something ready to go now for Winter quarter, I'm afraid that the "bits and pieces" I do have…

So I was watching this presentation by Sugata Mitra about Education Technology, how kids learn and how they teach themselves. One of the assertions made in the presentation is that learning is, most likely, a self-organizing system. I have been chewing on this mentally for several days now thinking how profound the implication of this assertion is. Seems that education, in the formal sense, has been more of a structured organism until I started teaching myself, learnng from others and teaching o…

As an instructional designer at Peninsula College I would like to share my thoughts about Fall Quarter 2008 as a part of the BTC NING Challange. First, let me explain myself. I didn't actually teach a class this quarter although I did assist with an Economics course by running the online side of the class for an instructor who didn't have time or the experience to build a Blackboard course in the ridiculously short amount of time he had between being hired and the start of the quarter. I did all…

Fall quarter went by so fast. We had several students pass through our library this quarter - a total of 25,213, which is 2,354 more students than spring quarter. Finals week was busy in the library. We had a total of 2,199 students this past week finishing up their final projects, assignments, and preparing for their final exams. It was nice to see students using our library's resources. This quarter there were actually students waiting for a table to study at and waiting to use a computer. Gro…

Fall Quarter of 2008 has been a very busy one. I had 33 students and this is more than I have had in the past. I kept everyone busy and learning as well as helping Washington Dept of Fish & Wildlife with their salmon returns. Our return was not as big as we had forcasted, and between the Sport Fishers and seals, we had a very small return to the hatchery. We had less than 1,000 Chum return to the hatchery pond. The Sport fishers harvested 1,000 or more, and the seals destroyed more than 2,00…

This fall, as always, got off to a busy, hectic, but fun start. We were told this quarter that the college had 400 more studnets than the fall before. I also doubled the amount of Opportunity Grant students going from 45 to over 90. Our IBEST programs saw some of the highest numbers yet. No wonder it felt like there was a stream of non-stop students! Also this fall, I moved offices (for the 5th time!) to the Career Center and got a new boss under the newly developed Workforce Funding department.…

I haven’t been here long enough to have any Ugly…and usually my point of view is not very critical to begin with unless I find myself problem solving! I do have an imaginary book hanging on my wall called the “Book of Weird” but really most of you are not in it by name…except maybe Jeff Curtis…and really he's not weird just smart and well versed!
My book of weird contains interesting tidbits that happened to me in the last few months, like one day I was introduced to a PhD who was pushing 70. S…

Fall is my favorite season. I love the promise of fresh starts and abundance.
Every September I get back-to-school butterflies and an almost-irresistible urge to buy myself new shoes. I do the supply shopping for the library, and while I appreciate the efficiency of ordering online, I sometimes wish I could wheel a cart down a library supply aisle, perusing shelves of laminate, cd cases, barcodes, self-inking date chunkers, and labels of every size, color, and purpose. Thank goodness I have sch…
