I just watched the video on my computer at home (DSL). Although it froze occasionally while it was buffering, the audio was very clear--both Dr Eckert's presentation and the discussion that followed. Thanks, too, to Jane Blume for sending out the email letting all of us know about it.

I'm in my office and the video is buffering often, the volume got better as it went along. I also appreciated the information shared by Dr. Eckert and the opportunity to think and chat about our future plans. This is very exciting! Jenny

Thanks Jesse...believe me, I understand your frustrations and I hope my comments were not taken personally or departmentally, because they were not meant that way.

I was working through my wireless router at home and I obviously have a speed issue. I'll try it on the computer connected directly to cable this weekend.

Yet another example of the frustrations that I face. If we want to have quality recordings, event organizers, presenters, and participants need to acknowledge the need for proper set-ups and must get past their trepidation about microphones. We need details ahead of time so that we can properly prepare. We also need some more equipment - mics, etc... for this type of thing. Tom did not want to carry / wear a mic and obviously the audience didn't approach the mic as we would have liked them to. With a few more mics, proper set-up details ahead of time, and presenter cooperation, the recording would have been much better.
The first few minutes sound really bad - as the mic had to be re-positioned and level adjustments made to compensate for the inadequate mic arrangement.
Otherwise, after about 3 mins in it is fairly well audible, and I haven't experienced any real problems with the video, either at home or on campus - plays pretty smooth and you can jump around with little delay.
CISS staff were watching the live stream and I was chatting with them as we recorded. As soon as the recording is done - it is available online, then can be embedded like it is here, rss feed, etc..
Jen - Thanks for recommending this tool.

It's streaming live with a chat room when you run it. You have the option of recording, but you don't have to. It's used more often for regular broadcasts.

How does ustream compare to youtube?
Jen Comment by Jen on November 21, 2007 at 5:49am
I'm at a hotel with not-so-high-speed internet and it's a bit choppy. I think for any type of lecture capture, you need the presenter mic'd as well as directional mics for the audience. I'm not sure how this works with web-based tools such as ustream. I haven't attempted any type of multiple mics.
