Fall Quarter 2008 - Trials and Tribulations of Being an Old Dog Trying to Learn New Tricks...

The quarter went swimmingly--EXCEPT for the fits and starts I encountered trying to develop my online class. I feel as though I know just enough to get excited and then overwhelmed... As I begin to explore one of the technologies, I then discover that it's really not supported fully, or something doesn't quite work right, or there's one little piece missing that I need to make it work. Instead of having something ready to go now for Winter quarter, I'm afraid that the "bits and pieces" I do have assembled won't hang together. Plus, I have 19 students for my first online class. ***eeek!****

I'd second Lesley's comments, Vicky. The first time through, you'll probably learn at least as much as your students. And you'll be able to incorporate all of that new knowledge and experience into an even better version of your class the second time through! Just keep breathing!

Anytime you embark on something new you have to expect a few bumps and bruises along the way! So look at this new experience as just a start and once this course is over, you will get to tweak your procedures and content for the next time---remember to rely on advice from those who have gone before you, ask questions and network. A big plus is you have me right down the hall ....and Vicky---there is only up from here!
